To deepen international students' understanding of Suzhou's rich cultural heritage and provide them with a firsthand experience of China's illustrious silk history and exquisite craftsmanship, the International College organized a hands-on cultural field trip to the Suzhou Silk Museum on the morning of October 23.

During the event, students toured the historical exhibition halls, where they learned about the origins and evolutionary development of Suzhou silk. They also visited the silkworm rearing house, observing the full life cycle of silkworms—from eggs to larvae, pupae, and finally moths. The group then explored the weaving and dyeing workshop, where they watched the intricate process of silk textile production. Many expressed deep admiration for the dedication, patience, wisdom, and aesthetic sensibility that Chinese artisans have woven into every silk thread over the centuries.

As part of the experience, students also had the opportunity, under the guidance of museum instructors, to craft their own silk refrigerator magnets—a creative and memorable takeaway from the visit.

The activity proved to be both an engaging historical and cultural lesson and an immersive hands-on craft experience. For students from the other side of the globe, it offered a tangible connection to the silk threads of Chinese civilization, weaving a vibrant bridge of international cultural exchange through the interwoven warp and weft of tradition.
