The UWI-CIIT Program

The UWI China Institute of Information Technology(UWI-CIIT)is a collaboration program between the University of the West Indies(The UWI), Caribbean and Suzhou Global Institute(SGI), China. The program is offered in a 2+2 format, with students spending the first two years at the University of the West Indies and the succeeding two years at SGI in China, during which students complete a six-month internship at an IT company in Suzhou. Students completing the program receive a SGI diploma in addition to The UWI BSc degree.

 

This unique program offers:

  • Core software engineering training which is aligned with the latest ACM/IEEE Software Engineering standards;

  • Training in research methods and technical writing;

  • Training in ethics and professional conduct;

  • Comprehensive artificial intelligence and intelligent software engineering training;

  • Systematic training in AI-assisted development tools and methodologies;

  • Specialized training in large model fine-tuning, prompt engineering, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), and AI Agent application development;

  • IT certifications, which will be issued by the given IT certification body;

  • A six-month internship at an IT company in Suzhou, China. Training in cross-cultural collaboration and global workplace competence, combining academic training with on-site enterprise practice in China;

  • Chinese language training leading to fluency in Chinese;

  • Experience immersion in Chinese culture and society and local culture and customs of Suzhou;

  • The award of a degree from the UWI and a diploma from SGI.
